In June of this year, the US military deployed the “Tsutsumi” medium-range missile system to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Kanoya base in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan to participate in the “Shield of Brave 2026” joint military exercise led by the US, and plans to continue participating in the “Eastern Shield” Japan-US joint exercise to be held in September. On August 2, people from Kagoshima rallied near the Kanoya base to oppose joint military exercises between Japan and the US and oppose the Japanese government's trend of expanding military forces and amending the Constitution.
