From what we can see, insiders were net buyers in Brait PLC's (JSE:BAT ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders acquired the stock in greater numbers than they sold it.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Brait

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Non-Executive Director Christoffel F. Wiese bought R4.5m worth of shares at a price of R2.15 per share. That implies that an insider found the current price of R2.28 per share to be enticing. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. Happily, the Brait insider decided to buy shares at close to current prices. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was Christoffel F. Wiese.

Christoffel F. Wiese bought a total of 2.48m shares over the year at an average price of R2.16.
