On July 31, local time, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that after receiving multiple complaints of suspension faults, it has officially launched a preliminary investigation into 1.1983,000 Tesla models. The Defect Investigation Office under NHTSA has received 156 complaints alleging suspension faults on the 2018-2020 Model3 and 2021-2023 ModelY vehicles. The suspension fault involves the front and lower lateral links falling off, which may cause the vehicle to lose direction control. The faults involved in this investigation are beyond the scope of previous recalls and do not appear to be related to the production issues that led to those recalls. ODI is initiating this preliminary assessment to determine the root cause, scope, and severity of the potential issues, and to comprehensively assess potential safety-related issues.
