The Charlotte, North Carolina-based company said it had net income of $1.79 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $1.82 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.75 per share.

The auto dealer posted revenue of $3.93 billion in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.78 billion.
