China's Datang announced on the 28th that the 630 degree Celsius ultra-supercritical secondary reheating coal power unit in Yuncheng, Datang was put into operation at full capacity on the same day. This is the world's first ultra-supercritical coal power project where the temperature of reheated steam exceeds 630 degrees Celsius and the thermal efficiency of power generation exceeds 50%. The capacity of a single unit is 1 million kilowatts. Lu Jun, chairman of China's Datang, said that this unit has set a world record for the highest temperature, highest pressure, highest efficiency, and lowest consumption of coal for electricity supply of the same type, further improving the efficiency of coal combustion and reducing coal consumption for electricity. Lu Jun explained that the unit uses technological innovation, process upgrade, equipment iteration, and material innovation as a starting point to achieve breakthroughs and integrated applications of “new technology, new processes, new materials, and new equipment”. The equipment localization rate reached 98.89%, successfully broke through the “ceiling” of industry technology with 50% heat generation efficiency, and achieved new breakthroughs in efficiency, temperature, pressure, and coal consumption. This project is a major technological breakthrough achieved by China's Datang and Dongfang Electric, China Baowu, China Steel Research and other joint research across the entire industry chain. Using a variety of new high temperature resistant special steels and self-developed C630R new steam turbine rotors, core technologies such as dual-engine heat recovery systems for small variable speed motors with balanced power and 12-stage heat recovery and steam extraction systems are simultaneously integrated and applied. The project is located in Yuncheng County, Shandong Province. It is a national key project during the “13th Five-Year Plan” period. The installation of 2 1,000,000-kilowatt ultra-supercritical secondary reheated coal-fired generators is a landmark achievement of China's conquering the key core technologies of coal power, providing strong support for the construction of a new power system.
