Engie JV Selects GE Vernova for UK's Dinorwig Hydropower Plant Upgrade

04:56 AM EDT, 07/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Engie's (ENGI.PA) First Hydro Co. joint venture selected GE Vernova to replace two pumped storage units at its Dinorwig pumped storage hydropower facility in North Wales, UK, according to a Tuesday release. The US-based energy technology company will supply upgraded motor generators and pump turbines, refurbish embedded components and upgrade the station's control system and power supply systems as part of the project, which is intended to extend the plant's operating life and improve its reliability and performance. French utility Engie owns 75% of the venture, while Canadian institutional investor La Caisse holds the remaining 25%.
