The Australian federal and state governments and industrial company Perdaman Group will study the viability of building a new refinery to rebuild domestic production capacity after the Iran war highlighted the country's dependence on imported fuel. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will announce on Tuesday a research plan to build a new refinery in Karratha, Western Australia. The project will receive 4 million Australian dollars in government funding, according to local media reports. If the project is approved, the refinery, built and operated by the privately held Perdaman Group, will be the first petroleum processing facility in Australia to be put into operation since 1965.
