Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on July 27, local time, saying that in response to the tariff measures recently announced by the US government, Brazil has officially requested negotiations with the US in accordance with the World Trade Organization dispute settlement mechanism. The negotiations covered two aspects: first, the US side imposed 25% tariffs on some Brazilian imports on the grounds of so-called “unfair trade practices”; second, the US side imposed tariffs on goods from dozens of countries, including Brazil, on the grounds of “forced labor” accusations.
