12:45 AM EDT, 07/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Ceiba Investments (CBA.L) said July 24 it plans to request US authorities to reverse its designation as a blocked person and remove the company from the Specially Designated Nationals list, saying the US sanctions designation was "an error." On July 23, the US Department of State designated Ceiba under an executive order covering certain Cuba-related activities, citing the London-listed investment company's acquisition of a 51% stake in Inmobiliaria Monte Barreto from Inmobiliaria Lares, a unit of Cuban military-linked conglomerate Gaesa. The company said the transaction was agreed before Gaesa was sanctioned and completed within the permitted wind-down period, adding that it voluntarily disclosed the deal to the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control in June. Ceiba requested a temporary trading suspension on the London stock exchange while it evaluates the impact of the designation.
