Recently, China's Ministry of Science and Technology and the European Commission signed a new round of Sino-European joint research funding agreements. According to the agreement, China and Europe will focus on the fields of “agriculture, food and biological solutions” and “climate change and biodiversity” from 2025 to 2027, jointly fund cooperation on practical R&D projects between Chinese and European universities, research institutes and enterprises to jointly address global challenges such as climate change, and provide technological solutions to promote carbon neutrality and green and low-carbon development. According to the terms of the agreement, China implements a joint funding mechanism between China and Europe through the “Key Projects for International Cooperation in Science and Technology Innovation between the Governments” under the “National Key Research and Development Program”, and the European Union implements the joint funding mechanism through the “Horizon Europe”.
