Recently, at the 2026 China Meat Industry High Quality Development Conference held in Yichang City, Hubei Province, the General Administration of Market Supervision guided the China Meat Association and local meat associations to jointly formulate and issue a self-regulatory convention for the meat products industry. More than 150 meat product manufacturers and operators, including COFCO and New Hope, responded positively and made on-site promises. The Self-Regulatory Convention mainly includes eight aspects. The first is to implement the main responsibilities, take good care of the “three categories” of key enterprise leaders, food safety directors, and food safety officers, do a good job in the “three things” of daily control, weekly investigation, and monthly schedule, and keep track of the “three accounts” of daily food safety inspection records, weekly food safety investigation and treatment reports, and monthly food safety dispatch meeting minutes to accurately identify hidden prevention and control risks. The second is to vigorously promote “Internet+AI supervision”, encourage active access to supervisory authorities' informatization platforms, and improve the quality and efficiency of supervision. The third is strict management of raw materials to ensure that meat ingredients are controllable and traceable, and resolutely resist the procurement, use of meat ingredients whose origin is unknown, has not been inspected or quarantined, or has failed inspection and quarantine, expired, or smuggled. Fourth, strictly abide by production standards, obtain food production permits in accordance with the law, strengthen control over production and operation processes, and resolutely put an end to illegal acts such as adulteration and substitution, such as falsification of derived ingredients in meat products. Fifth, add in accordance with the law, insist that food additives are not added unnecessarily, and resolutely put an end to the production of meat products “two superstitions and one fault”. The sixth is to standardize labeling, ensure that product labeling is complete, true and accurate, and protect consumers' right to know and choose. The seventh is to improve the quality of personnel, organize and carry out training and assessments in accordance with the law, and enhance the ability to comply with the production and operation of meat products. Eighth is to adhere to honest and compliant management, consciously maintain a fair competitive market order, and consciously accept supervision by government supervisory authorities, industry associations, news media, and the general public. The promulgation of the Self-Regulatory Convention aims to promote meat product production and management enterprises to fully implement the responsibilities of the first person responsible for food safety, guarantee the safety of meat products through practical actions, make people feel safe and at ease, and promote the high-quality development of the meat products industry.
