The current price of crude oil is about 80 US dollars per barrel. Based on this calculation, the toll proposed by Trump will increase the cost of transporting each barrel of crude oil through the strait by another 16 US dollars, and the overall freight will reach 26 US dollars per barrel. For a large tanker capable of carrying 2 million barrels of crude oil, this toll alone would increase the cost by more than 30 million dollars. Oil importers are likely to pass on part of the costs to end consumers.
