ByteDance responds to “exploring the field of autonomous driving”: there are no plans to do an intelligent driving business

The Zhitong Finance App learned that recently, according to media sources, ByteDance is exploring entry into the field of autonomous driving and intends to lay out autonomous driving scenarios, including no traffic. The business is part of Byte's volcano engine vehicle industry line. In response to the media, Byte said, “There is a lot of early research and exploration in the field of cutting-edge exploration of Byte's big model, including the field of physical AI, but there are no plans for an intelligent driving business.”

Some people familiar with the matter said that the Byte team had business discussions and exchanges with some leading autonomous driving teams. Currently, the project has entered an early stage of preparation. Byte has issued invitations to many head-assisted or autonomous driving talents, and some technical talents who are optimistic about this layout are also planning to join.

According to reports, the ByteDance Seed team was founded in 2023 and is committed to finding new methods for general intelligence. The research direction covers fields such as LLM, voice, vision, world models, infrastructure, AI Infra, and next-generation AI interaction.

At the Volcano Engine Force Power Conference held on June 23, the Doubao Big Model 2.1 was officially released. The Doubao video generation model Seedance 2.0 was upgraded simultaneously. Seedance 2.5, the Doubao image creation model Seedream 5.0 Pro, and the Doubao Audio Generation Model 1.0 were also unveiled for the first time.
