Chen Liquan, winner of the National Science and Technology Award, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a researcher at the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, reported on July 10 at the 18th Conference of Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering that the “three modernizations” concept, which is mainly characterized by electrification of transportation, intelligent equipment, and low carbon energy, is gradually becoming a reality. Academician Chen Liquan pointed out in the “Academy of Engineering and Electric China” theme report that high-performance batteries are the key to achieving an “electric China”. Among them, the biggest challenge facing lithium batteries is to increase energy density on the premise of ensuring safety. Solid-state battery systems can simultaneously have high energy density and safety. At the same time, there is a risk that lithium resources are limited in China; sodium batteries are an effective complement to lithium batteries.
