While attending an International Monetary Fund discussion in Washington, Al-Kuwari said, “A full shock is imminent, and it's not far away.” He said that the recent surge in global prices is only the “tip of the iceberg.” “I think the world will really feel a huge economic shock in a month or two,” he said. “Soon you will be faced not only with energy prices, but with energy supply issues. So even if you are able to pay, you may not be able to get an energy supply, which will be a very serious problem.” He added that a sharp decline in global fertilizer production and supply from the region could also lead to missed farming seasons around the world, leading to a food crisis.
