Statistics from the US Office of Personnel Administration show that the number of US federal government workers has fallen to its lowest level in at least 10 years. Nearly all major federal agencies have made layoffs. Some agencies, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, have reduced their staff by more than a quarter. However, the Department of Homeland Security is an exception; its number of employees has remained almost unchanged since Trump came to power. According to OPM statistics, the number of US government employees is 2.1 million. The federal government has long been viewed as a stable employer, and employees at various agencies usually work for decades.
