Swisscom Unit, TIM to Expand 5G Coverage in Italy

02:48 AM EST, 01/07/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Swisscom's (SCMN.SW) subsidiary Fastweb + Vodafone and Italian telecommunications company TIM will collaborate to expand 5G coverage in Italy. The companies will develop 5G mobile access networks via a Radio Access Network sharing model and deploy them in 10 regions, with a total of 15,500 sites operated by each company by the end of 2028, according to a Wednesday release. A final contract is expected by the second quarter, and the project is subject to approval from the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the Italian Competition Authority, and the Authority for Communications Guarantees.
