Song Tao, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, published a New Year message entitled “Work together to create welfare” in the first issue of “Cross-Strait Relations” magazine in 2026. The article mentioned that 2026 is the beginning of the country's “15th Five-Year Plan”. We will work harder to create better conditions for Taiwanese businessmen, Taiwanese compatriots, and Taiwanese youth to study, work, and live in mainland China, listen more widely to their voices, meet their needs in more detail, further expand exchanges and cooperation, deepen integrated development, protect the rights and interests of Taiwanese compatriots in accordance with the law, so that the vast majority of Taiwanese compatriots have more benefits and more real welfare. We will take stronger action to oppose “Taiwan independence” division and foreign interference, support the island's patriotic reunification forces, and maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits. We are willing to engage in dialogue and consultation with various political parties, political groups, and people of insight in Taiwan on cross-Strait relations and national reunification on the basis of the one-China principle and the “1992 Consensus.” We are willing to seek bright prospects for peaceful reunification with the utmost sincerity, but we will never leave any room for various forms of “Taiwan independence” separatist activities.
