According to the AXIOS website, Ukrainian President Zelensky said on Friday that he hopes to reach an agreement on a framework to end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict when meeting with US President Trump on Sunday. Zelensky also revealed that if Russia agrees to a cease-fire for at least 60 days, he is willing to submit the plan to a referendum. The US side believes that Zelensky's willingness to hold a referendum and no longer rule out territorial concessions is a major step forward. However, Zelensky stressed that holding such a referendum would face major political, logistical, and security complications. That's why he believes that arranging and holding a vote requires a 60-day cease-fire “is the minimum.” A senior US official said that Russia understood that a cease-fire was needed if Zelensky called for a referendum, but hoped the timeline would be shorter. Zelensky also said that he is currently uncertain whether Russia is ready to agree to Trump's plan. “I have some intelligence... but at the moment I only trust the leader's words,” he said.
