US Cleveland Federal Reserve Governor Beth Hammack said that monetary policy is currently in a state suitable for suspension to assess the impact of a cumulative 75 basis point interest rate cut on the economy. “My basic situation is that I can maintain the status quo for a while until there is more clear evidence that either inflation is falling back to target levels or there is more obvious weakness on the employment side,” Hammack said in an interview with the “Wall Street Journal” podcast on Thursday. The interview was broadcast on Sunday local time. “We've cut the policy interest rate by 75 basis points, which should help fulfill our mission's employment goals, but we still need to be cautious,” said Hammack, who will have voting rights at the Federal Open Market Committee in 2026. “I am very concerned about ensuring that inflation can return to target levels. This is one of our main goals, and accomplishing this task is very important.”
