Starting December 17, 2024, China will uniformly extend the original 72-hour/144-hour visa-free transit policy to 240 hours. Over the past year, more than 3,300 people have enjoyed the convenience of this policy at the Kunming Changshui International Airport port. According to statistics from the Kunming entry/exit border checkpoint, as of December 20, 2025, Kunming Airport Port has had more than 572,000 foreign visitors since this year. Among them, more than 411,000 foreigners were granted visa-free entry. More than 70% of foreign visitors enter the country for the purpose of tourism. They are no longer transit visitors, but have become in-depth tourists who immerse themselves in the ethnic customs and natural landscape of Yunnan. This shift not only highlights the driving effect of the visa-free policy on inbound travel spending, but also confirms the unique appeal of Yunnan as an international tourist destination.
