On December 19, local time, the United Nations Security Council voted to pass resolution 2808, extending the mandate of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo by one year, until December 20, 2026. This authorization was made in the context of the continuing turbulent situation in eastern Congo and the security situation still serious. The resolution was promoted by France as the author country. After many rounds of consultations and repeated revisions, the resolution was finally passed by 15 full votes in the Security Council with a compromise plan. The Chinese side voted in favor.
