Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said on Wednesday that due to government subsidies, ordinary retail gasoline prices in Japan fell below 160 yen per liter for the first time since September 2021 as of Monday. The average gasoline price fell 4 yen from the previous week to 159.7 yen per liter, falling for the sixth consecutive week. The Japanese government began raising the subsidy in November, and on Thursday raised the subsidy to 25.1 yen per liter, in line with the temporary gasoline surtax to be abolished by the end of this year.
