There are a few key trends to look for if we want to identify the next multi-bagger. In a perfect world, we'd like to see a company investing more capital into its business and ideally the returns earned from that capital are also increasing. If you see this, it typically means it's a company with a great business model and plenty of profitable reinvestment opportunities. So on that note, Scout24 (ETR:G24) looks quite promising in regards to its trends of return on capital.

What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?

For those who don't know, ROCE is a measure of a company's yearly pre-tax profit (its return), relative to the capital employed in the business. To calculate this metric for Scout24, this is the formula:

Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)

0.17 = €293m ÷ (€2.1b - €351m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2025).

Thus, Scout24 has an ROCE of 17%. In absolute terms, that's a pretty normal return, and it's somewhat close to the Interactive Media and Services industry average of 16%.

So How Is Scout24's ROCE Trending?

Scout24 has not disappointed in regards to ROCE growth. The data shows that returns on capital have increased by 338% over the trailing five years. The company is now earning €0.2 per dollar of capital employed. Interestingly, the business may be becoming more efficient because it's applying 51% less capital than it was five years ago. A business that's shrinking its asset base like this isn't usually typical of a soon to be multi-bagger company.

On a side note, we noticed that the improvement in ROCE appears to be partly fueled by an increase in current liabilities. The current liabilities has increased to 17% of total assets, so the business is now more funded by the likes of its suppliers or short-term creditors. Keep an eye out for future increases because when the ratio of current liabilities to total assets gets particularly high, this can introduce some new risks for the business.

The Bottom Line On Scout24's ROCE

In summary, it's great to see that Scout24 has been able to turn things around and earn higher returns on lower amounts of capital. Considering the stock has delivered 37% to its stockholders over the last five years, it may be fair to think that investors aren't fully aware of the promising trends yet. So with that in mind, we think the stock deserves further research.
