10:25 AM EST, 12/16/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Shell (SHEL.L, SHELL.AS) unit Shell Offshore reached a final investment decision on a waterflood project at its wholly owned Kaikias field in the US Gulf of Mexico. The project involves injecting water to sweep the displaced oil into adjacent wells that supply the UK oil and gas major's Ursa platform, while re-pressurizing the reservoir formation, according to a Tuesday release. First injection is slated for 2028 and is expected to extend the platform's production lifecycle by several years, as well as boost the field's recoverable resource volume by 60 million metric barrels of oil equivalent. Shell is the operator of the Ursa Tension Leg platform with a 61.3484% stake, while BP's (BP.L) BP Exploration & Production and ECP GOM III hold the remaining 22.6916% and 15.96% stakes, respectively.
