07:45 AM EST, 12/16/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Swiss Re (SREN.SW) said Tuesday it expects global insured losses from natural catastrophes to reach $107 billion in 2025, marking the sixth straight year that the amount exceeds the $100 billion mark. Of the total amount, the Swiss reinsurer's preliminary estimates showed that $40 billion in insured losses were due to the wildfires in Los Angeles and $50 billion from severe convective storms, primarily in the US. The country accounted for 83% of global insured catastrophe losses during the year. Severe river and flash-flooding events in Southeast Asia, particularly in Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia, also contributed to the total, along with hurricanes that hit certain countries, including Jamaica. Total insured losses are anticipated to be $118 billion in 2025, of which $107 billion were due to natural catastrophes. In 2024, total insured losses amounted to $151 billion, with natural catastrophe-related losses coming in at $141 billion.
