On December 16, the WeChat Security Center published an article stating that recently, fraudsters impersonated workers such as “Confidentiality Bureau,” “Online Banking Backstage,” and “Platform Customer Service” to contact victims via unfamiliar phone calls, falsely claiming that the “password-free payment” functions of platforms such as WeChat and Alipay have been activated or linked to automatic billing services, and that if not turned off, they will continue to charge fees. The victim is then directed to a designated website to download malware with screen sharing or remote control capabilities. Once installed, fraudsters can remotely control the victim's phone and induce them to perform key operations such as face-swiping authentication, entering bank card passwords, and SMS verification codes, thereby stealing account funds. WeChat Pay's “password-free payment” function itself does not charge any fees. Anyone who guides the operation, asks for fees, or requests to download software on the grounds of “turning off password-free payments” is a fraud.
