On December 13, 2025, the National Medical Security Work Conference was held in Beijing. The conference pointed out that during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, the national health insurance system optimized medical insurance payment mechanisms and promoted the development of the medical and health services and pharmaceutical industries. Adhering to real support for innovation, supporting true innovation and supporting differentiated innovation, a total of 949 new drugs have been added to the medical insurance catalogue. Currently, the total number of drugs included in the medical insurance catalogue has reached 3,253. “Certain Measures to Support the High-Quality Development of Innovative Drugs” was issued, and a catalogue of innovative drugs for commercial health insurance was drawn up for the first time, and 19 drugs with high clinical value, high degree of innovation, and significant patient benefits were included. Payment by disease type achieved full coverage starting with the pilot, formulating and implementing the 2.0 version of the disease-specific payment plan, and simultaneously establishing five major supporting mechanisms, including individual special cases, to effectively relieve the worries of medical institutions treating critically ill patients and using new drugs and technology. All co-ordinated regions of the country carry out immediate settlement, effectively relieving the pressure on medical institutions to advance funds.
