EU Expands Probe into Lithuania's Support Measure for Ignitis grupė

07:12 AM EST, 12/12/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission will extend its investigation into Lithuania's support of Ignitis grupė's (IGN.L, IGN1L.VS) Ignitis Gamyba for a government-designated oil- and gas-fired power plant. While preliminary findings show that the security of supply services deal between 2013 and 2018 met conditions for state aid, the commission said Friday the extended in-depth investigation will now look into whether alternative providers would have been able to provide services, among others. Lithuania has maintained that the 361 million-euro measure given to the energy company constitutes services of general economic interest, which the regulator said would need assessment under a different legal basis.
