European Commission Launches Foreign Subsidies Probe into China-based Nuctech

06:44 AM EST, 12/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission launched an in-depth probe into the activities of Chinese threat detection systems maker Nuctech to review whether it received foreign subsidies that could negatively impact the European Union's internal market. The decision follows a preliminary investigation opened in April 2024 that found several measures granted by the Chinese government to the company may have improved its competitive position in the EU and negatively affected rivals, according to a Thursday release. The potential subsidies provided to Nuctech, a unit of Chinese state-owned Tsinghua Tongfang Group, were grants, preferential tax measures, and preferential financing in the form of loans.
