The US Food and Drug Administration issued a communiqué on the 10th saying that the number of infant botulism cases reported in many US states continues to rise. As of the same day, 19 states across the US have reported a total of 51 suspected or confirmed cases of infant botulism. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has expanded case tracking. The US Drug Administration said that epidemiological and laboratory test results showed that the “full nutritional infant formula” produced by American infant formula manufacturer Bayhart may be contaminated with botulinum, causing babies in many parts of the US to become ill. The survey showed that all of the children had consumed this formula before the onset of the disease. The US Drug Administration and Bayhardt are investigating the source of contamination, and it is not ruled out that all formula products produced by Bayhart may be affected.
