AeroVironment: Fiscal Q2 Earnings Snapshot

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — AeroVironment Inc. (AVAV) on Tuesday reported a fiscal second-quarter loss of $17.1 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Arlington, Virginia-based company said it had a loss of 34 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 44 cents per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 85 cents per share.

The maker of unmanned aircrafts posted revenue of $472.5 million in the period, which also fell short of Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $477.4 million.

AeroVironment expects full-year earnings in the range of $3.40 to $3.55 per share, with revenue in the range of $1.95 billion to $2 billion.

AeroVironment shares have climbed 83% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $281.66, an increase of 76% in the last 12 months.
