Early this morning, China Eastern Airlines flight MU745 took off from Shanghai Pudong International Airport and will eventually arrive in Buenos Aires, Argentina via Auckland. This route, which spans the eastern and southern hemispheres and has a voyage of about 20,000 kilometers, has set a new record for the longest one-way route in the world and shortened the voyage from China to South America by more than four hours. The new route is scheduled to carry out two round-trip flights per week. In addition to setting the highest flight distance in the world, the new route has filled the gap in direct flights from Shanghai to core cities in South America, built a “southbound channel” flight path across the Pacific Ocean, and reshaped the way air travel is carried out between the three continents.
