Why Is SMCI Stock Climbing on Monday?

Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) stock is trading higher on Monday in a relief bounce, attempting a recovery after a severe market rout. The move comes alongside gains in the broader equity market.

On Thursday, Super Micro appointed former Western Digital Corp. (NASDAQ:WDC) executive Mark Long as chief financial officer, effective immediately. He replaces David Weigand, who has served as CFO since early 2021.

Accounting and Export-Control Scrutiny

Super Micro began its CFO search in December 2024 after an independent review of its accounting practices. Short-seller Hindenburg Research had alleged accounting manipulation. Separately, contractor Ting-Wei "Willy" Sun recently pleaded guilty to four counts, including conspiracy to violate U.S. export restrictions, over servers with NVIDIA Corp. AI chips shipped to China.

Management Cites AI Demand

At the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development Michael Staiger described demand as "pretty excellent." He said the company’s roughly $60 billion order book, or orders it has received, supports its fiscal 2027 revenue outlook of $65 billion to $72 billion.

Technical Analysis

From a trend perspective, SMCI is still in "repair mode" over the past year (down 42.53% over 12 months), but it’s trying to base above its longer-term floor. The stock is trading 19% below its 20-day SMA ($40.81) and 14.6% below its 50-day SMA ($38.67), which tells you the intermediate trend is still pointed down despite today’s bounce.

At the same time, price is now 1.8% above the 200-day SMA ($32.47), a level that often acts like a line in the sand for longer-term positioning. The 50-day SMA remains above the 200-day SMA (a golden cross that occurred in August), but the stock’s inability to hold above the 50-day area recently suggests that bullish signal hasn’t translated into sustained upside follow-through yet.

  • Key Resistance: $39.50 — lines up closely with the 50-day SMA/EMA area, where rebounds have a higher chance of stalling
  • Key Support: $29.50 — a nearby floor that sits above the $19.48 52-week low and marks a zone buyers may defend if the bounce fades

SMCI Stock Price Activity: Super Micro Computer shares are trading higher by 3.02% at $32.59 at the time of publication on Monday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
