According to Woofun AI, Palantir (PLTR.US)'s revenue structure in the US market has taken a historic turn. Its US commercial business revenue surpassed the US government business for the first time in the third quarter, marking the formal establishment of a two-wheel drive pattern by this software giant, which started as a public-sector partnership.
According to the third-quarter results released on November 2, Palantir's total revenue reached US$2,313 billion, an increase of 96% over the previous year, which means that for every $100 received in the same period last year, it received approximately US$196 in the current quarter.
According to data compiled by Woofun AI, the US commercial business contributed about 52% of the year-on-year increase in total revenue in the third quarter, that is, for every $100 of revenue, about 52 US dollars came from US commercial customers; the US government business contributed about 40% of the increase, while business outside the US contributed significantly less to this round of growth. The US market's share of the company's revenue has increased. The US business accounted for about three-quarters of total revenue in the same period last year, and this share has risen to about 84% this quarter. A year ago, the US commercial business still lagged behind the government business by about $89 million; by the third quarter of this year, the commercial business was ahead by about $31 million.
Although the gap is not that big, the direction has reversed, and it happened at a time when both sides are growing rapidly: the company revealed that US commercial revenue increased 148% year over year, and US government revenue increased 96% year over year. The former started from a smaller base, grew at a higher rate, and eventually surpassed the latter this quarter. This does not mean that government business has become unimportant. The revenue of the US government business has nearly doubled. The increase itself is about 80% of the increase in US commercial business. Together, the two businesses form the main body of US revenue; any of these two businesses is sufficient to influence the company's overall performance.
It is worth noting that the comparison here is between US business and US government business, not global business and global government business. The company also has commercial and government customers in other regions, and mixing figures from different regions will change the comparison target.
The core driver of growth is the penetration of the artificial intelligence platform AIP into enterprise customers. Palantir revealed that in the 12 months to the end of the third quarter, the company had 686 commercial customers in the US, an increase of 29% over the same period last year. This standard of statistics is an organization that has confirmed revenue in the past year. It is not equivalent to the number of new customers signed up during the quarter, and the increase in the number of customers was lower than the US commercial revenue growth rate in the same quarter, indicating that revenue growth cannot simply be understood as a result of a year-on-year increase in the number of customers. Another key indicator is the overall net dollar retention rate of 165%. According to company calculations, the same group of customers contributed 1.65 times more revenue in the last 12 months than in the previous 12 months.
This indicator covers the company's overall customers. Using rolling annual revenue, it is not a separate quarterly retention rate for the US commercial business. It shows that the revenue of the company's original customer base is increasing, but it cannot directly prove how much of the increase in US commercial revenue comes from old customers and how much of the increase in US commercial revenue comes from new customers. High-value transactions are also increasing revenue opportunities, and the company said it closed 212 transactions of at least $1 million in the third quarter, 64 of which reached at least $10 million. The latter is included in the former, cannot be added up, and the transaction amount is not equal to the current quarter's revenue, because the total transaction value includes contractual obligations and contract options that the customer has not yet exercised, and revenue still needs to be confirmed during the corresponding period in accordance with accounting rules.
Palantir's revenue forecast for the full year was raised in line with the current financial report. It is expected that the full year's revenue will be between $8.530 billion and $8.534 billion, and the US commercial revenue is expected to exceed $3.559 billion. This is management's forecast, and unrealized revenue cannot be considered confirmed revenue. Palantir's new milestone has two aspects of being established simultaneously: US corporate customers are bringing in more quarterly revenue than the US government for the first time, and the government business itself is still growing close to doubling.
This structural transformation confirms the success of the AIP platform in commercialization, and also shows that government business has not stagnated, but rather forms the basis for the company's high growth with commercial business. In the future, as the share of US commercial revenue increases further, Palantir's growth logic will shift from a single government dependency to a more balanced twin-engine model. This will be the company's second major shift in strategic focus following the outbreak of its early government contracts.
