Key Points

  • Revenue growth accelerated to 83% last year as production scale improved.

  • Gross margins expanded to 19% following the successful launch of new models.

  • The company faces stiff price competition and potential trade policy headwinds in Europe.

A potential customer walks into a showroom in Guangzhou, testing the latest autonomous driving software in the P7+ sedan. He expects a vehicle, but the software suite that handles the driving, the charging logic, and the cabin experience suggests he is buying a rolling computer. XPeng (NYSE:XPEV) operates exactly at this intersection of high-tech software and heavy-duty manufacturing. The company designs, builds, and distributes smart electric vehicles across China, while also pushing deeper into robotics and advanced artificial intelligence. With the stock recently trading at $9.71 as of November 2, it has faced a volatile year, shedding 59% of its value over the past 12 months.

Our proprietary Hidden Gems scoring system assigns XPeng an overall Superscore of 72 out of 100, placing it in the Above Average category. The Superscore is an AI-powered score that evaluates a company's overall strength by combining financial performance, product market position, technological capabilities, leadership quality, and relative valuation. It represents the unification of all our scores into a single score for public companies, with five rating bands: Exceptional (90-100), Strong (75-89), Above Average (60-74), Average (40-59), and Cautious (0-39). This 72 places the company in the Top ~27% of every company we score. This score serves as a starting point for your own due diligence, offering a high-level signal that should be weighed against the specific risks and opportunities inherent in the Chinese electric vehicle market.

Why XPEV Has a 72 Superscore

  • Revenue scale: Revenue reached RMB77 billion in 2025, a performance driven by a massive 126% surge in annual vehicle deliveries that validates the company's aggressive manufacturing rollout.
  • Operational improvement: The company expanded its gross margin to 19% in 2025 from just 14% the prior year, signaling that its shift toward standardized vehicle platforms is successfully lowering per-unit production costs.
  • In-house technology: Developing full-stack software and autonomous driving systems internally allows the company to iterate on features faster than competitors who rely on third-party suppliers for their vehicle brains.
  • Charging infrastructure: Operating a proprietary network of 3,780 charging stations, including 2,720 ultra-fast sites, creates a tangible convenience moat that keeps current owners within the ecosystem.

Why Is XPEV's Superscore Not Higher?

  • Intense competition: The Chinese electric vehicle market is currently caught in a brutal price war, forcing the company to balance rapid volume growth against the constant threat of shrinking margins.
  • Regulatory sensitivity: European Union countervailing duties on Chinese-made vehicles create significant uncertainty for international expansion plans and export-led revenue growth.
  • Valuation risk: The stock trades at a price-to-sales ratio of 1.1x, which prices in high expectations for future growth and leaves little margin for error if delivery cadences slip or pricing power falters.
  • Geopolitical exposure: Operating primarily within China leaves the business vulnerable to domestic economic shifts and trade policies that could impact both its supply chain and its primary consumer base.

My 5-year prediction for XPEV stock

The XPeng that exited October looks very different from the one that spooked investors in the first half. Deliveries in the first six months fell about 16% from a year earlier and net losses widened to RMB3.1 billion, which explains much of the stock's 48% slide. But then the new product cycle kicked in. Third-quarter deliveries rose 15% sequentially, and October set a company record at 50,237 vehicles, the first month ever above 50,000, with overseas deliveries up 166% year over year to a record 13,326 units.

That export line deserves the most attention. International sales now make up more than a quarter of monthly volume, spread across dozens of countries and giving XPeng a partial hedge against China's brutal price war. The new L05 began deliveries November 1, and on October 26 the company secured a license to run Level 4 robotaxi demonstrations in Guangzhou, a first step toward monetizing the autonomy stack it has spent years building in-house.

None of this erases the risks. EU tariffs, relentless domestic competition, and the unresolved question of consistent profitability are all real, and the third-quarter financials due this month will show what the volume recovery is costing. But with roughly RMB40 billion in cash, a refreshed lineup across price points, and an overseas engine compounding fast, I think XPeng outperforms over the next five years for investors who can stomach the volatility.
