What Ambev Holders Got Right

Simply Wall St·11/01/2026 00:37:15

Ambev spent the year rolling out digital platforms and premium labels while investors were hit with a political shock as Lula’s re-election triggered a sharp sell-off across Brazilian stocks. Holding Ambev over the past year would have returned 21.6%, including dividends. If you had put money in right after that election slump, what exactly did you need to believe about margins, regulation and Brazil risk to stay invested?

On Simply Wall St, a Narrative is an investor's thesis written down: the reasoning, plus the numbers it rests on. Run those numbers and you get an estimated Fair Value.

Ambev has already moved. See which of 193 high quality undervalued stocks still trade below our estimates.

The Two Stories Ambev Investors Were Arguing About

The shares cost R$12.59 at the start of the period, and anyone buying Ambev then had to pick between two very different stories.

The bullish Narrative saw a Fair Value of R$14.41 and leaned on digital platforms and premium labels. It assumed revenue growth of 5.2% a year and profit margins rising to 17.3%, supported by a future P/E of 19.4x over a 3 year view.

The bearish view put Fair Value at R$11.3 and focused on falling alcohol demand, tighter rules, and Brazil concentration risk. It highlighted structural declines in consumption and pressure from regulation and taxation on alcoholic drinks.

What The Results Changed For The Ambev Debate

The sharp 19% drop in Ambev after Lula’s re-election gave the cautious story fresh weight by underlining Brazil risk, even though it was a political shock rather than a business issue. Later, Q3 2026 results showed revenue at R$21,594.6m and net income at R$4,245.4m, with net margin slipping from 22.8% to 19.7%. Overall, the evidence cut both ways.

For a different company, focus on which assumption really matters. Here, it was margin resilience. Track net margin alongside any promised premiumisation or efficiency gains to see whether the story is turning into numbers.

What Ambev’s Recent Gain Already Prices In

Ambev shares now trade at R$14.6, after a 21.6% gain over the past year. The selected Narrative sees Fair Value below that level, arguing that today’s quote already bakes in a lot of optimism about margins and cash generation.

To judge the current price, you need to ask whether premium labels, Balanced Choices, Beyond Beer and the BEES and Zé Delivery platforms can keep offsetting mix, cost and volume pressure across Brazil and smaller markets.

"The main condition for Ambev is that its premium, Balanced Choices and Beyond Beer portfolio, together with the BEES and Zé Delivery digital platforms and disciplined cost control, continue to support margin expansion and healthy cash generation despite cyclical beer demand swings and input cost pressure."
