It's been a good week for CRISIL Limited (NSE:CRISIL) shareholders, because the company has just released its latest quarterly results, and the shares gained 3.7% to ₹4,694. CRISIL reported in line with analyst predictions, delivering revenues of ₹11b and statutory earnings per share of ₹105, suggesting the business is executing well and in line with its plan. This is an important time for investors, as they can track a company's performance in its report, look at what experts are forecasting for next year, and see if there has been any change to expectations for the business. Following the latest results, CRISIL's two analysts are now forecasting revenues of ₹50.8b in 2027. This would be a decent 18% improvement in revenue compared to the last 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to shoot up 21% to ₹148. Yet prior to the latest earnings, the analysts had been anticipated revenues of ₹50.1b and earnings per share (EPS) of ₹151 in 2027. The consensus analysts don't seem to have seen anything in these results that would have changed their view on the business, given there's been no major change to their estimates.

There were no changes to revenue or earnings estimates or the price target of ₹5,142, suggesting that the company has met expectations in its recent result.

Of course, another way to look at these forecasts is to place them into context against the industry itself. It's clear from the latest estimates that CRISIL's rate of growth is expected to accelerate meaningfully, with the forecast 14% annualised revenue growth to the end of 2027 noticeably faster than its historical growth of 11% p.a. over the past five years. Compare this with other companies in the same industry, which are forecast to grow their revenue 12% annually. CRISIL is expected to grow at about the same rate as its industry, so it's not clear that we can draw any conclusions from its growth relative to competitors.

The Bottom Line

The most obvious conclusion is that there's been no major change in the business' prospects in recent times, with the analysts holding their earnings forecasts steady, in line with previous estimates. Happily, there were no real changes to revenue forecasts, with the business still expected to grow in line with the overall industry. There was no real change to the consensus price target, suggesting that the intrinsic value of the business has not undergone any major changes with the latest estimates.

With that in mind, we wouldn't be too quick to come to a conclusion on CRISIL. Long-term earnings power is much more important than next year's profits. At least one analyst has provided forecasts out to 2028, which can be seen for free on our platform here.
