On a per-share basis, the New York-based company said it had profit of $1.25. Earnings, adjusted for amortization costs and costs related to mergers and acquisitions, came to $1.31 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.27 per share.

The largest U.S. cellphone carrier posted revenue of $34.31 billion in the period, falling short of Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $34.81 billion.
