Why Indosat Bears Were Right Before The Drop

If you had hesitated on Indosat at the start of 2026, worried that both bullish AI-cloud optimism and bearish capex concerns were pulling in opposite directions, that caution would have felt costly to your patience but not your capital. Holding Indosat from the start of the year would have meant a 20.6% loss, including dividends. With that result in hand, which of the published assumptions or early warning flags would you focus on to judge the business today?

Narratives are how investors here put a case on the record, with explicit assumptions about revenue, margins and the multiple. Those assumptions imply an estimated Fair Value.

The Two Stories Investors Had To Weigh On Indosat

The shares cost IDR2,320 at the start of the period, and by then Indosat carried two very different stories investors had to price in.

On the optimistic side, the September 2025 Narrative put Fair Value at IDR2,642. This was tied to assumptions of 6.6% annual revenue growth and profit margins reaching 10.9%, supported by AI cloud services and heavier 4G and 5G network investment.

The December 2025 bear case argued for Fair Value of IDR1,600. It focused on shrinking legacy voice and SMS income and the strain from rapid capital spending and higher debt.

What The Results Changed For Indosat

The clearest new fact for Indosat was Q2 2026 profitability. Total revenue moved from IDR13,531,723m in Q2 2025 to IDR15,432,484m in Q2 2026, while net income rose from IDR1,024,219m to IDR2,817,606m. Net margin shifted from 7.6% to 18.3%. That improvement supported the optimistic case on earnings quality, even if only over one quarter.

The useful takeaway is simple. When a story leans on margin expansion, track net income and net margin together in each report and compare them with the original forecasted margin, not just with revenue growth claims.

What Indosat's Lower Price Now Asks You To Believe

Indosat trades at IDR1,785 today, down from IDR2,320 at the start of the year. The selected Narrative places Fair Value above that level, based on how far ARPU gains and AI Neocloud contracts can stretch against heavier spending.

The key question for any buyer now is whether ARPU-led premiumization and contracted AI Neocloud revenue can more than cover higher incentive pay and front-loaded CapEx while keeping leverage restrained.

"The main requirement is that ARPU-led premiumization and EPS- and free cash flow-accretive AI Neocloud contracts together more than cover the step up in variable pay and front-loaded CapEx while preserving balance sheet strength. The numbers imply the share price reflects limited credit for contracted AI Neocloud revenue, FiberCo proceeds of around US$700 million, and low net debt-to-EBITDA of 0.31x."
