The “New Era, New Journey, Shanghai International Aviation Hub Strategic Plan” was officially released recently. The “Plan” was jointly planned by the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Civil Aviation Administration of China. The overall goal of the “Plan” is to fully build an all-round gateway complex international aviation hub with world influence, become the core connection node connecting domestic air transport networks and international air transport channels, and proceed in three stages: the first stage is to basically build a leading aviation hub in the Asia-Pacific region by 2030, complete the fourth phase of the Pudong Airport expansion project, optimize the airspace structure of Shanghai's access control area, and achieve an annual passenger and cargo throughput of 150 million passengers and 4.7 million tons. In the second phase, by 2035, it will enter the forefront of world-class aviation hubs and build a new airport in Nantong, forming an international aviation hub system with integrated operation of “two places and three routes” and an efficient interconnected integrated transportation system, achieving an annual passenger and cargo throughput of 200 million passengers and 5.4 million tons, and the main hub operator will basically be built as a “super carrier”. In the third stage, by the middle of this century, an all-round gateway complex international aviation hub with world influence will be fully built.
