Quantinuum Inc. (NASDAQ:QNT) shares are trading higher Monday after the company announced a world-record quantum error-correction result on its Helios computer.
Quantinuum said its Helios commercial computer achieved a logical fidelity of 99.9995%, equivalent to five errors per million operations. The company said the error rate is 10 times lower than its own record from September, set using its Helix code on the same Helios hardware, and 100 times lower than the best published result on any other hardware type, reported by Google Quantum AI on a superconducting system. This time, Quantinuum used a "color code," which required up to 37 physical qubits per logical qubit, compared with 10 for Helix, and delivered lower logical error rates. Logical errors fell exponentially as the company increased the code distance, with each tested increase cutting the remaining errors by a factor of 12.
"We have reduced error rates tenfold in rapid succession using a different code on the same commercial hardware," said Dr. Rajeeb Hazra, CEO of Quantinuum.
Quantinuum said the performance is now within the target range for Apollo, its planned universal fault-tolerant quantum computer expected by 2029, and that it believes the result suggests it can reach fault tolerance with significantly fewer qubits than other hardware types need. Robin Blume-Kohout, co-director of Sandia National Laboratories’ Quantum Performance Lab, who wasn’t involved in the study, said a scaled-up version of the system could reach the reliability needed for useful computation with fewer than a million physical qubits. Quantinuum went public in June 2026.
QNT Price Action: At the time of publication, Quantiuuum shares are trading 5.34% higher at $38.49, according to data from Benzinga Pro.
