If you only glanced at SRF’s latest quarter, with higher revenue and a wider net margin, the business might look comfortably on track. For SRF shareholders, the loss over the past year was 21.9%, including dividends. That gap between healthier reported results and a falling investment is hard to ignore. If you were weighing a purchase in October 2025, what could you reasonably have seen that hinted this mismatch might emerge?

SRF shares cost ₹3,192 at the start of the period, and investors were effectively choosing between two very different stories for the same business.
The bullish view pointed to a Fair Value of ₹3,650, a price implied by optimistic assumptions about the future. Supporters leaned on R&D driven launches in agrochemical and pharma intermediates during a global supply shortage, expecting strong demand and wider margins.
The bearish camp worked off a Fair Value of ₹2,080, reflecting a more cautious set of expectations. This side focused on the risk that tighter environmental rules and a faster shift to green materials would raise compliance costs and pressure earnings.
The clearest datapoint came from SRF’s Q1 2027 report. Revenue of ₹50,332.6m and net income of ₹7,588.7m, versus ₹38,186.2m and ₹4,323.2m a year earlier, arrived with net margin at 15.1% rather than 11.3%. That combination of higher sales, profit, and profitability leaned toward the optimistic margin thesis, while still not disproving regulatory and capital intensity worries.
The useful takeaway is simple. When a story hangs on margin expansion, do not just track the top line. Compare net margin percentages quarter by quarter to see whether the promised profitability shift is actually showing up.
SRF now trades at ₹2,466 after a 21.9% loss over the past year, while the selected Narrative’s Fair Value sits above the current price based on its own assessment. The argument leans on specific fluorochemicals, pharma and films projects rather than a broad chemicals growth pitch.
For that higher Fair Value to hold, a buyer today would need to assume SRF executes its large capex program on time and within budget so new capacities deliver the earnings mix shift the Narrative describes.
"The view on SRF has shifted from a broad, sustainability and capacity led chemicals story to a more focused, long term build out of an integrated fluorochemicals, pharma and higher value films portfolio, anchored by specific capex projects and timelines."
