October 16 is World Food Day. The National Rice Yield Promotion Conference, co-hosted by the China Rice Research Institute and the National Agricultural Technology Promotion Service Center, was held on the same day in Jiangshan City, Quzhou, Zhejiang, to focus on using science and technology as the core starting point to improve the results of rice yield improvement in the entire county, and provided a demonstration model for large-scale yield improvement in major rice-producing regions in the south. Information released at the conference showed that technology is boosting the potential of good seeds into actual production. This on-site promotion conference focused on the high-yield cultivation model of the basic seedling arrangement for machine-planted “dense in the field, sparse in the bush”. On the basis of reasonably increasing the density of rice cultivation, this model gives full play to the advantages of individual growth of strong seedlings and the balanced advantages of field groups. Currently, it has formed a mature machine-planting scheme in major rice-producing regions such as double cropped rice in the south, single cropped rice in the south, and single-season rice in the north.
