Last week, you might have seen that DIP Corporation (TSE:2379) released its half-year result to the market. The early response was not positive, with shares down 5.8% to JP¥1,666 in the past week. Revenues came in 7.8% below expectations, at JP¥12b. Statutory earnings per share were relatively better off, with a per-share profit of JP¥114 being roughly in line with analyst estimates. This is an important time for investors, as they can track a company's performance in its report, look at what experts are forecasting for next year, and see if there has been any change to expectations for the business. So we collected the latest post-earnings statutory consensus estimates to see what could be in store for next year.

Following last week's earnings report, DIP's six analysts are forecasting 2027 revenues to be JP¥52.4b, approximately in line with the last 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to bounce 80% to JP¥57.35. Before this earnings report, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of JP¥53.1b and earnings per share (EPS) of JP¥71.20 in 2027. The analysts seem to have become more bearish following the latest results. While there were no changes to revenue forecasts, there was a real cut to EPS estimates.

The consensus price target held steady at JP¥1,620, with the analysts seemingly voting that their lower forecast earnings are not expected to lead to a lower stock price in the foreseeable future. It could also be instructive to look at the range of analyst estimates, to evaluate how different the outlier opinions are from the mean. The most optimistic DIP analyst has a price target of JP¥2,000 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at JP¥900. Note the wide gap in analyst price targets? This implies to us that there is a fairly broad range of possible scenarios for the underlying business.

These estimates are interesting, but it can be useful to paint some more broad strokes when seeing how forecasts compare, both to the DIP's past performance and to peers in the same industry. It's pretty clear that there is an expectation that DIP's revenue growth will slow down substantially, with revenues to the end of 2027 expected to display 3.3% growth on an annualised basis. This is compared to a historical growth rate of 7.3% over the past five years. By way of comparison, the other companies in this industry with analyst coverage are forecast to grow their revenue at 9.0% per year. So it's pretty clear that, while revenue growth is expected to slow down, the wider industry is also expected to grow faster than DIP.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away is that the analysts downgraded their earnings per share estimates, showing that there has been a clear decline in sentiment following these results. On the plus side, there were no major changes to revenue estimates; although forecasts imply they will perform worse than the wider industry. There was no real change to the consensus price target, suggesting that the intrinsic value of the business has not undergone any major changes with the latest estimates.

Keeping that in mind, we still think that the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for investors to consider. We have estimates - from multiple DIP analysts - going out to 2029, and you can see them free on our platform here.

That said, it's still necessary to consider the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 2 warning signs with DIP (at least 1 which is significant) , and understanding these should be part of your investment process.
