05:39 AM EDT, 10/11/2026 (MT Newswires) -- An investigation by the United Arab Emirates found that the Omani co-pilot of FZ 1073 Flydubai flight planned to crash the plane into Ben Gurion Airport in Israel, Reuters reported, citing a statement from UAE Attorney General Hamad Saif al Shamsi. The statement added that the "supposed suicide attack" was inspired by the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the US. Additionally, the investigation found that the suspect had familiarized himself with the routes through previous flights. The UAE attorney general added that flydubai's recruiting procedures did not reveal the Omani co-pilot's "extremist views" or plans of a terrorist plot, even though the investigation discovered that there were signs as early as 2017.
