Italy's Insurance Supervisor Approves BMPS Unit's Purchase of Over 10% Generali Stake

11:46 PM EDT, 10/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (BMPS.MI) obtained approval from Italy's Institute for Insurance Supervision for its Mediobanca Premier unit's acquisition of a more than 10% stake in Assicurazioni Generali (G.MI). BMPS said Thursday that the investment in the Italian insurer is part of its merger transaction with fellow Italian lender Mediobanca Banca di Credito Finanziario (MB.MI) and the subsequent partial demerger of the wealth management and investments business, Mediobanca Premier.
