UK Revokes Marketing Authorization for Valneva's Chikungunya Vaccine

12:21 AM EDT, 10/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Valneva (VLA.PA) received information that the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency revoked the marketing authorization for Ixchiq, its chikungunya vaccine. The specialty vaccine company said Wednesday that the regulator's decision followed the UK Commission on Human Medicines' additional benefit-risk assessment of the vaccine for travelers. It noted that the assessment considered previous safety data and was not due to newly discovered safety signals. Valneva added that Ixchiq, which was launched in the UK in mid-2025, has not been actively distributed in the country for several months. The company also assured that the withdrawal of the UK marketing authorization has no impact on its licenses in the European Union, Canada and Brazil, among other territories.
