Stripe’s private-market valuation has climbed to $184.4 billion, as the payments giant builds infrastructure for a future in which artificial intelligence agents can make purchases and transact without a human sitting at the checkout screen.
Forge’s latest data shows a $72.45 Forge Price for Stripe as of Oct. 1, implying a $184.4 billion valuation. The figure is up 99.64% over the past year, according to Forge, and is above the company’s $159 billion post-money valuation from a February 2026 tender offer, when shares changed hands at $62.47.
The private-market repricing comes as investors look beyond traditional online payments toward what PitchBook calls the emerging "machine economy," in which AI agents can act on behalf of people and businesses.
"AI agents are becoming more capable of buying and selling," PitchBook said in its report on agentic payments. The research firm mapped 183 emerging agentic-payment startups and found $491.8 million in disclosed venture funding across 34 deals during the first eight months of 2026.
PitchBook said the market remains early. Excluding a $500 million Series A raised by Tempo, funding levels were similar to 2025, underscoring the nascent state of the sector. The median pre-money valuation for agentic-payment startups was $94.7 million in 2026, compared with $57.6 million for broader fintech startups, although PitchBook cautioned that 2026 data remains limited.
Stripe is one of the larger established companies positioning itself around that market.
PitchBook identifies Stripe as a developer of the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), allowing AI agents to interact with merchants through APIs rather than navigating websites, covering product details, checkout, payment handoff and order tracking.
Stripe has also developed the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) with Tempo, a system for machine-to-machine payments that allows an agent to authorize a spending limit and pay against a running balance as it consumes resources.
Stripe has increasingly expanded beyond conventional payment processing as AI usage grows. In August, the company agreed to acquire OpenRouter, an AI model gateway that helps businesses route and optimize token usage across more than 400 models from over 80 providers. The deal extends its infrastructure into the growing market for AI applications.
The company’s push reflects a broader challenge identified by PitchBook: traditional payment infrastructure was built around humans, while machine transactions may happen at much higher frequencies and involve tiny payments for APIs, data, compute and other digital services.
PitchBook said new payment protocols are emerging to address those gaps, but cautioned that it is "too early to pick winners."
Forge’s $184.4 billion implied valuation therefore offers a private-market snapshot of investor expectations around Stripe’s expanding role in payments, even as the broader machine-payments market remains in its early stages.
