Lean hog futures posted mixed trade, with front months down 22 to 50 cents and deferreds stead to 97 cents higher. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $76.93 on Thursday, down 79 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was up a penny on September 29 at $80.95.
Export Sales data showed 35,288 MT of pork sales in the week of September 24 for 2026 shipment. Actual exports were tallied at 34,768 MT in that week, a 20-week high.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was up $85.29 in the Thursday afternoon report, at $85.29. The loin, picnic, and belly primals were reported lower. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Thursday was estimated at 493,000 head, with the weekly total at 1.949 million head. That was 27,000 head above last week and 7,278 head larger than the same week last year.
